Clocks
In the physical world, clocks are ubiquitous. A tower clock is a centerpiece to every city. A wall clock is a focal point of every hall. But in the computer world? A tiny string of digits in the corner of a screen. An utility. Where is the grandeur, the dignity, the pride?
This web page brings big clocks into the computer world, with the respect they deserve. It will:
- Show the clock.
- Full page, full screen, no distractions.
- Keep showing the clock.
- Prevent the screen from turning off.
- Animate sparingly to conserve power.
Which clock?
Our premier clock is a copy of the tower clock on the Khrennikov House, a.k.a Grand Hotel Ukraine, in the center of Dnipro, Ukraine. It is how one would see it on a sunny August morning in 2015.
While the building itself first opened in 1913, the tower clock was not part of the original design. Rather, it was added as a part of a major reconstruction in 1953 by the architect V. O. Zuiev, after the building was destroyed in a fire in 1943.
